What makes CERTEGO a good workplace?

According to Åsa Mattson, team leader at CERTEGO, her colleagues in Örebro are encouraged to shape the work culture.

We went to Örebro to meet team leader Åsa Mattson, who has been working at CERTEGO since 2016. She talks about what she does during the day, what she believes about the future of the security industry, and what it is that makes CERTEGO a good workplace.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself, Åsa?

- I have been working at CERTEGO Örebro for a little more than seven years. I come from a completely different industry originally, where I worked in printing, which isn't as sustainable anymore. The demand for paper printing decreases every year, so I thought I should do something else, and then I ended up here quite unexpectedly.

What do you get to do at CERTEGO?

- My main job is to organize the security technicians' workdays. But then there's a lot of administration, making work orders, and invoicing. I'm also responsible for the store and the employees there. Then I try to make things easier for everyone around me, to give them a better workday.

What does a typical workday look like?

- A typical workday starts with a lot of chaos around seven, half-past seven, before all the technicians head out. Then it calms down. After that, there's a lot of administration, some meetings, and various phone calls. I also help prepare the jobs that the technicians will go to later.

Your colleagues think you are one of the best leaders at CERTEGO. What's the secret behind that?

- I'm not really sure, but it's nice that they think so. The reason might be that I try to make everything as smooth as possible for everyone. I'm also very much a team player; I believe teamwork is important, which I also try to convey to the technicians. We should help each other, both in the office and out in the field - and they do that too. My colleagues are very good at this.

The security industry is constantly evolving, what direction do you think it will take in the coming years?

- I think there will be much more CCTV. Then, locks and keys will not disappear completely, but their use will decrease. We work a lot within the correctional system where locks and keys are standard, but we also notice that, for example, housing associations want various digital solutions. If someone loses a key fob, it's just a matter of replacing it and blocking the old one. It's a bit harder with keys.

What's unique about the branch here in Örebro?

- We have fun together! They probably do at other branches, but I think we in Örebro help each other extra much. An employee who is usually in the store might sometimes go around working as a technician. This also applies to our branch manager Tony, who also goes out and screws when needed. Everyone here in Örebro contributes.

What does the collaboration look like between different branches? Does it exist?

- Yes, it exists with Region Mitt. There we have both borrowed and lent security technicians to the branches in Karlstad and Västerås. If someone has little to do, we can easily lend to each other, which is very valuable since the technicians sometimes have different competencies. We have also borrowed from Nyköping and Stockholm before, and that has also worked very well.

What would you say to someone who wants to apply for a job here in Örebro?

- Apply! We often have ads out, and we are looking for all kinds of technicians and project managers. It's a fun job, and we are still building the branch. We are not at all done, we want to grow, and all employees can influence the department. With us, you can put your own stamp on the job.

And finally, what is CERTEGO for you?

- CERTEGO for me is a good workplace. Since I started, we have developed the HR department, which I feel works for all of us employees. If I have questions or concerns about employment or something similar, they are always there. In that way, I think CERTEGO is a very good workplace, it feels safe to know that I can always get support from my colleagues.
